Co-location: Increase the revenue of your solar or wind farm with a battery energy storage system

For developers and operators of PV and wind projects

Boost the profitability of your PV or wind power plant by installing a battery energy storage system alongside it. A battery storage system can offset negative electricity prices, reduce revenue losses and generate additional income. At the same time, the grid connection is used more efficiently. Synergies in construction and operation also help to reduce investment and operating costs.

Benefits

Benefits of our co-location offer

Flexible Investment Models

We offer you the opportunity to benefit through either an attractive revenue-sharing model or a joint investment in a battery energy storage system, which has the potential to generate lease income.

Holistic Integration of AC-coupled Battery Energy Storage Systems

As a full-service partner, we oversee the full lifecycle of co-located AC-coupled battery storage systems – from project development and construction through to long-term operation.

Tailored Co-location Solutions for PV and Wind Farms

Whether you're looking for a full-service solution or targeted support, we adapt to your needs to ensure your project's success.

FlexRadar: Tailored Solutions for Grid Operators

Our in-house tool FlexRadar provides data-driven recommendations for a grid-friendly operating strategy of the storage system, increasing the likelihood of securing the required power supply.

Process
The next steps for a joint co-location project:
  • 01
We align on the key parameters of our collaboration.
  • 02
Once we receive your project data, we promptly coordinate with the grid operator to clarify the power supply for the battery storage system.
  • 03
We then develop and construct the battery storage system, covering all associated investment costs.
  • 04
You benefit directly from the project’s revenue streams.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
  • None! Battery storage systems and renewable energy systems complement each other perfectly. In the rare cases where both feed in at the same time, the renewable energy system takes priority. Your existing feed-in profile remains unchanged.

  • No, in co-location projects, the battery storage system and the renewable energy system share the same grid connection. This reduces effort, permitting requirements, and costs.

  • Our battery storage systems are designed for PV farms with a capacity of 8 MWp or more and for wind farms with a capacity of 8 MW or more. They are individually tailored to the respective generation profile.

  • Yes, the battery storage system operates independently, it does not affect existing subsidies or PPAs.

  • These systems can be used flexibly in the electricity market. They can be used for day-ahead and intraday trading, as well as for grid services, such as primary and secondary balancing power. We are happy to advise you on the model that best suits your project.

  • The effort required from you is minimal. You provide us with your project data, and we take care of the rest, including grid connection, permits, coordination, and commissioning.

We cover the costs during the permitting process. When it comes to construction, we’re happy to discuss a potential co-investment.

  • Yes, that’s possible. Our modular, AC-coupled storage systems are suitable for retrofitting into existing installations.

  • Generally, we use a 1:1 ratio between storage capacity and grid connection capacity. Nevertheless, we analyze each project individually and develop a customized concept tailored to your specific needs.

  • Ideally, it would be located right next to your transfer station on your premises. Alternatively, we will find a suitable location for the battery storage system.

  • Yes. We make use of available capacity at your substation and share investment costs by agreement, ensuring optimal utilization and reduced operating expenses.

  • It typically takes around 1.5 years, depending on the location, permitting timeline, and component availability. The technical lifetime of the system is between 15-30 years.
